SC parents facing charges after kids call for help

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A Spartanburg couple is facing neglect charges after authorities say their children shut themselves in a closet and called for help.

Sheriff’s deputies say the 6- and 8-year old children of Eeva and Mark Moen hid in a closet in the family’s home Sunday night and called relatives. Authorities say the children reported that they were scared because their parents had passed out.

Relatives went to the home, where they said they found Eeva Moen naked and stumbling. Her husband was passed out in a bed.

The children are staying with relatives. Deputies say the Moens had to be carried to a patrol car because they could not walk on their own.

Mark and Eeva Moen have been charged with child neglect. It wasn’t known if they had attorneys.
