Lucky 7s leave lots of SC lottery players happy

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — For South Carolina lottery players who believe in lucky sevens, Saturday was their day.

The numbers 7-7-7 were picked Saturday evening during the state lottery’s Pick 3 game. The combination is one of the favorites among lottery players and has been drawn five other times during the drawings that started in 2002 and became twice daily in 2003.

Lottery officials say there were about 6,500 winners Saturday.

While the numbers were lucky for players, who won a combined $1.6 million, the numbers weren’t so lucky for the lottery, which sold just over $200,000 in tickets for the drawing.
