2 escapees from Anderson County jail captured

WALHALLA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say both inmates who escaped from the Anderson County jail by chiseling away concrete blocks in their cell have been recaptured.

Oconee County deputies said 28-year-old Travis Foster was found Tuesday after someone reported a suspicious man on a road near Seneca. Authorities say he is back in the Anderson County jail.

Investigators say 35-year-old Jason Hughes was arrested Tuesday in Bell County, Ky., after a trooper stopped a stolen truck. Authorities have started extradition proceedings.

Authorities say the men were able to chisel out the mortar around the concrete blocks of their 50-year-old cell. They then climbed into an office Sunday night, pushed out an air conditioner to make it outside and scaled a fence.

Both men were awaiting trial on larceny charges.
