Man shot to death in Chester County

EDGEMOOR, S.C. (AP) — Chester County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the weekend shooting death of a man in the Edgemoor community.

Authorities say 50-year-old Marvin Cherry of Edgemoor died Sunday night after he was shot.

Sheriff Richard Smith says investigators think a relative shot and killed Cherry. Deputies responding to a report of a shooting found the 72-year-old man who apparently fired the shot sitting in a chair outside the home.

Deputies consulted with prosecutors and decided against taking the man into custody.

Smith did not release a motive in the shooting because of the ongoing investigation. Smith says no one else is being sought in the investigation.
