Attorney wins GOP primary for McConnell’s old seat

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A Charleston attorney has won the Republican nomination to fill the unexpired term in the Charleston state Senate seat vacated by Lt Gov. Glenn McConnell.

Walter Hundley won the nomination in Tuesday’s primary. Hundley faces Democrat Paul Tinker and Green Party candidate Susan Edward in a special election July 17.

Hundley says he is only seeking the office for McConnell’s term that expires in November. Hundley is not running for a full term in this fall’s election. There’s another primary for that contest June 12.

McConnell became lieutenant governor earlier this year when Lt. Gov. Ken Ard resigned from office and pleaded guilty to campaign finance law violations.
