Meth lab found in remains of fire that killed 3
GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say the remains of a methamphetamine lab have been found in the rubble of an apartment fire that killed three people in Goose Creek.
Berkeley County deputies said they have turned the investigation into Thursday’s blaze over to the State Law Enforcement Division and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration. No charges have been filed.
Coroner Bill Salisbury says 69-year-old Joseph Raeth and 4-year-old Samuel Garbe died in one apartment, while 19-year-old Morgan Abernathy died in a different unit.
Investigators said Abernathy’s body wasn’t found until Friday and had burns all over his body.
The Red Cross said at least 36 people lost their homes, including 17 children.
