Under new SC law golf carts can travel 4 miles

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — People with golf carts may drive that farther on streets and roads in South Carolina starting this fall.

Gov. Nikki Haley has signed the law allowing golf carts to be driven 4 miles from their owner’s homes on roads. Now they can only drive 2 miles.

The new law takes effect Oct. 1.

Drivers must be 16 years old and golf carts are allowed only on roads where the speed limit is 35 mph or less.

Golf carts are not allowed on the road at night.
