Contested races in 4 SC congressional districts

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — There are primary races in four South Carolina congressional districts but most of the attention is on the crowded races in the state’s new 7th Congressional District in the northeastern corner of the state.

Thirteen candidates are on the ballot Tuesday – nine Republicans and four Democrats. The district was created because of population growth reflected in the last census and for the first time in 80 years the state will again have seven House members.

Because of the crowded fields, it appeared runoffs were likely in both primaries.

There are also Democratic primaries in the 3rd District and 4th districts in the Upstate. Second District GOP incumbent Joe Wilson faces a challenger.
