Limited Flights for Gamecock Fans Going to Omaha
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “We sold all the space we could get,” says Joe Bouknight, Owner of Forest Lake Travel on Forest Drive. If you are a Gamecock fan planning on flying out to Omaha, think again. “Columbia and Atlanta were booked before we could even ring the phone,” says Bouknight. Bouknight says space is limited. “The only thing we can guarantee right now is first,” says Bouknight. Most of those are out of Charlotte, so what do you do? “The only thing I can says is if they want an airline ticket they are going to have to either check with an agency or the airline and see if someone that was going to go, might have cancelled,” says Bouknight. But the flights are expensive. Travel agents tell us right now the cheapest round trip flights are going more than $1,100.00. As for one way flights, those are between $400.00 and $600.00, and Bouknight says they’re popular. “If they win everything is fine, but if they lose they come home early,” says Bouknight. “You never really think the third year is coming so I think everybody is real excited,” says Leslie Carter, General Merchandise Manager at Addam’s University Bookstore. Carter says Gamecock fans are shopping in numbers. “Once we won the game, we’ve had a lot of foot traffic and a lot of online orders,” says Carter. They even have what they call a “construction zone” ready and waiting for the championship merchandise, if the team brings back a 3-peat. The Gamecock Baseball team will leave from Carolina Stadium at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
