Old Myrtle Beach inn will be mini-golf, restaurant

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — One of oldest oceanfront inns in Myrtle Beach will be replaced by a rooftop restaurant and a miniature golf course.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported (http://bit.ly/L73VF3) the closed Chesterfield Inn will be torn down soon to make room for the new development.

The three-story brick building has been at the beachfront location since the 1940s.

The owners said most visitors are attracted to modern high-rise hotels with features such as in-room kitchens and lazy rivers on the grounds.

The inn is on the National Register of Historic places but co-owner Karon Mitchell says it wasn’t feasible to renovate.

The Southern-style restaurant and 36-hole miniature golf course should be open next March.

Supporters say the plan could help redevelop the area near the former Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park.
