COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “They’re worth it,” says Melissa Schneck, shopper. Spending is up for Father’s Day 2012, that’s according to the Naitonal Retail Federation. Some Midlands shoppers aren’t surprised. “No, No people don’t seem to quit spending,” says Laura Keith, shopper. “No, actually it seems like everything is getting better,” says Dayna Ducote, shopper. Others are. “Economy,” says Schneck The National Retail Federation estimates the average shopper will spend $117.14 on Dad this year. “That’s a lot to spend on an occassion like this I think,” says Schneck. “I think think it’s nice to acknowledge him with something you know, whether it’s cooking him a meal or a card,” says Tyler Culbertson, shopper. Sporting itmes top this year’s list. “We are looking for the perfect golf balls that we found on an advertisement on TV,” says Culbertson. “The Nike Golf Outfit,” says Keith. “I actually got him some workout clothes, he’s been hitting the gym pretty hard,” says Ducote. Crandall Sims reporting, “If your Dad isn’t in to sports or the outdoors, there’s always electronics, starting with his cellphone.” That’s right, apps are popular this year.
