Charleston tennis center being renovated

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Charleston city officials are announcing plans to renovate one of the city’s busiest tennis centers.

Mayor Joe Riley, officials with the city and representatives of the Charleston Parks Conservancy are announcing the renovation plans for the Maybank Tennis Center during a news conference Wednesday.

The center is located on James Island and features lighted courts, including eight hard courts and three clay courts.

The United States Tennis Association named Charleston the best tennis town in the nation for 2010. Charleston received $100,000 for tennis programs and to improve tennis facilities.
