SC Guardsmen Killed, State Leaders Speak Out

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “These were fathers, these were husbands, these were sons and they were heroes,” says Governor Nikki Haley, (R) South Carolina. Friday, Governor Haley stood alongside Major General Livingston for a press conference regarding the loss of three South Carolina National Guardsmen. “We are continuing to be in a War and unfortunately in war we have tragic losses,” says Major General Livingston. This is the largest loss of life ever in one incident for the guard. “This is devastating,” says Major General Livingston. The attack by a reported suicide bomber left five others injured and is one, the soldiers likely did not see coming. “This particular one was in the middle of a large crowd in the marketplace and so I think the thing that is different is that it was a very difficult to target,” says Major General Livingston. John Denny knows the reality of war first hand. “Lonely, it can be lonely, you have your friends, your battle buddies that you rely on for everything,” says John Denny, Chaplain. Denny just returned from a combined eight month tour in Iraq and Kuwait. Crandall Sims reporting, “In what Denny calls a timely coincidence, tonight The Harvest in Lexington will begin a monthly series called “The Foxhole” it’s a time for military families of those who have served and are still serving to come together as one.” And while the connection is clear, it wasn’t made on purpose. “Eerie, eerie,” says Denny. But, he says it does have a purpose. “My hope and my prayer is that they will, through this process discover a community that supports them, encourages them and loves them,” says Denny. ‘The Foxhole,’ will be held Friday, June 22, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at The Harvest on Sunset Boulevard in Lexington, the services will continue each month.
