2 arrested in Charleston said they were hunting

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Police have arrested two men after one of them was spotted firing a gun in downtown Charleston.

The Post and Courier of Charleston (http://bit.ly/LF5axi) reported police were called to a neighborhood after someone called 911 saying a man was firing a rifle toward an overpass.

It turned out to be a BB gun and there were no reported injuries.

But 21-year-old Phillip Joseph Popoff was charged with firing a spring gun. Forty-seven-year-old Bryan Allen Matzke is charged with trespassing.

A police report says Popoff told officers they were shooting at birds at the overpass with the Daisy BB gun they had purchased from a pawn shop earlier Tuesday.

It was not clear if the Charleston men have lawyers.
