Parents arrested in Charleston County boy’s death

LADSON, S.C. (AP) — A Charleston County couple has been charged with illegal conduct after their 2-month-old son died.

Twenty-one-year-old Angel Ann Richardson of Ladson and 28-year-old Stephen Melvin were arrested earlier this week.

Two-month-old Kayden Melvin was in cardiac arrest when he was taken to Trident Medical Center on Wednesday. Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay said Thursday night that the cause of the infant’s death remains unknown. Lindsay says an autopsy did not find any immediate indication of trauma. There were a number of insect bites on the boy’s body.

Warrants say deputies found deplorable conditions in the home, including bugs and dog feces on the floors.

It was not clear if Richardson and Melvin have attorneys.

Coroner Rae Wooten says Richardson’s 4-month-old daughter died at the home in June 2010.
