Turner wins recount for SC Senate seat

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A recount has confirmed Ross Turner as the Republican nominee for a state Senate seat representing Greenville County.

Just 36 votes separated Turner from second-place finisher Joe Swann in last week’s primary runoff. That difference did not change in the recount. State election officials expect to certify the results Monday afternoon.

Turner is taking the seat of Senate Banking and Insurance Chairman David Thomas. The seven-term incumbent lost his bid for re-election June 12. He placed third in a five-way primary. He was among six incumbents who lost their primary races. He was the only committee chairman to lose.

No Democrat is running for the seat.

Turner is president of a Greenville insurance agency.

State law requires a recount when less than 1 percentage point separates the candidates.
