SC coroner checks if nursing home death from heat
EASLEY, S.C. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of an 84-year-old Easley nursing home resident whose death is being investigated as possibly related to recent intense heat.
Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley says an autopsy was performed Monday on Eloise Arnold. Kelley says it will take several weeks to get the autopsy results.
Arnold collapsed Saturday at the Majesty Health & Rehab of Easley and died at a local hospital. Kelley says the air conditioning in one of the home’s three wings wasn’t working properly.
A nursing home spokesman says the air conditioners were working, but struggled to cool the building from the 105 degree temperatures.
Arnold would have been 85 on Monday.
