Coroner: 10-year-old killed in accident at SC mill

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — A 10-year-old boy has died after an accident at a defunct mill in Anderson County.

Deputy Coroner Don McCown says a support beam weighing about 500 pounds fell and hit Jonathan Myalik of Inman in the head Friday afternoon.

The boy was pronounced dead the next day at a hospital.

McCown says Jonathan and two other children were with an adult relative in the building when the accident happened. Neighbors said the boy’s family has been working at the building for several months.

Services for Jonathan were scheduled for Monday. The family plans to set up a memorial fund and is accepting donations to help pay hospital expenses.
