Dems Reprimand Governor
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Local democrats take their beef over the budget beyond the walls of the state capitol by reprimanding the governor because they believe her recent vetoes will leave thousands of South Carolinians without jobs and shut down some state agencies for good. Standing in front of the abruptly locked doors of the South Carolina Arts Commission, some democratic lawmakers publicly criticized Governor Nikki Haley on her decision to veto teacher pay raises and reject the $1.9 million requested to keep the state Arts Commission up and running. They hope public outcry will encourage their colleagues to override the vetoes when legislators return to the State Capitol. The governor stands by her vetoes and says there is a method to the decisions she’s making. Both the House and Senate will go back into a special session the week of July 17, to consider overriding the governor’s vetoes.
