SC State Ports Authority discussing inland port

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina State Ports Authority board is holding a special meeting to discuss the possibility of locating an inland port in the state.

The board holds a Monday morning conference call to discuss the idea. There’s been no mention on where such a port might be located. But the idea has been studied in the past with locations including Orangeburg and in upstate South Carolina.

An inland port would provide a location to transfer shipping containers from trains to trucks away from the coast.

The authority already owns about 800 acres of land near the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport.
