1 dead, 19 injured in bus crash on Grand Strand

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — A man was killed and 19 people injured when a pick-up truck and a bus collided on U.S. 17 in Pawleys Island.

Authorities say the accident happened Tuesday evening and involved a Williamsburg County Transit Bus that was carrying more than 30 people.

Georgetown County Deputy Coroner Sam Hodge identified the dead man as 47-year-old Gregory Smith of Pawleys Island, who was driving the truck. Authorities say the driver’s side of the pick-up truck was hit by the bus that was heading to Kingstree.

Twelve of the injured people on the bus were taken to area hospitals and one was reported to be in critical condition. The others were treated at the scene.
