Columbia sets nighttime 5K race to promote safety

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Officials with the City of Columbia are holding a downtown nighttime 5K race to promote ways to stay safe.

The second annual Safe in the City 5K is scheduled for Friday in downtown Columbia.

Police Chief Randy Scott says the event has several age categories for male and female participants, and the top three winners in each category will receive a medal.

There are also post-race refreshments, water stops and monitors and water misting stations.
