Haley goes to Charleston private school ceremony
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Gov. Nikki Haley and Charleston Mayor Joe Riley will cut the ribbon for the new building housing a private school in Charleston for underprivileged families.
The Meeting Street Academy will officially open its new school at 10 a.m. Monday.
The school relies on donations, partnerships and volunteers. Its goal is to provide a college prep education to children whose families can’t afford private school. The academy currently has more than 100 students ranging from 3 years old to third grade.
The academy has been run in temporary facilities since opening in August 2008.
