Hearing postponed on Atlantic Beach elections
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A hearing has been postponed on an appeal of May’s elections in Atlantic Beach.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/PJuu17 ) the hearing had been scheduled Monday in Conway.
Another hearing was given precedent on the court schedule. The challenge could be considered later this week.
Mayor Retha Pierce and Windy Price filed the appeal June 4, 10 days after their initial election protest hearing. They contend that Gov. Nikki Haley did not have the authority to order the special election, and that Horry County did not have the authority to run the election or the May 25 protest hearing.
Pierce lost to Town Councilman Jake Evans on a 79-5 vote. Price received one vote.
Evans will not be sworn in until the appeals process is resolved.
