Operation Move-Out gets under way in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Operation Move Out is ready to clean up in Charleston.

Leases for many renters and college students expire at the end of July and that means piles of discarded furniture and households goods on Charleston streets and sidewalks.

The operation begins Wednesday as city code enforcement officers identify locations where discarded goods are piling up. The officers will give tenants fliers describing ways of disposing of items that can still be used, such as donating them to charity.

On Saturday, volunteers will be out again identifying locations with trash for pick up by sanitation trucks. Additional crews will be out collecting trash on Tuesday, July 31 and Wednesday, August 1 as apartments change hands.
