Former Newberry Coach: Interim Athletic Director

NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) — Former Newberry assistant wrestling coach Matt Finley has been named interim athletic director at the NCAA Division II college. The school’s acting president, John Hudgens, announced Finley’s appointment Monday. Finley takes over for Brad Edwards, who’s leaving to become athletic direction at Jacksonville. Hudgens said incoming Newberry College president Maurice Scherrens will undertake a national search for an AD after starting at the school Aug. 14. Finley started at Newberry as assistant wrestling coach in 2005. Five years later, Finley moved into administration as assistant athletic director for business. He was promoted in 2011 to associate AD for compliance and academic services.
