Savannah River opening exhibit of site’s artifacts

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — The company that manages the Savannah River Site is holding a ceremony to celebrate the opening of an exhibit preserving the facility’s artifacts.

Officials from Savannah River Nuclear Solutions and the U.S. Department of Energy are participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Tuesday at the site’s Curation Facility.

The 35,000 square-foot facility preserves and protects historic Cold War artifacts and various archaeology sites around the sprawling complex.

The Savannah River Site is a 310-square-mile facility that once manufactured bombs for the nation’s nuclear arsenal. Work there is now focused on repurposing some of those materials and cleaning up the site.
