Pough Wants To Rein In Bulldogs

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (SCSU SID) — SC State continued fall football workouts Monday with a long and spirited session. The workout was the third preseason practice and first in shoulder pads for the Bulldogs. Coach Buddy Pough‘s team continued to emphasize fundamentals and also worked on some team-style drills. Pough said that putting on shoulder pads for the first time did not appear to slow his players, however, he expressed some displeasure with some aspects of Monday‘s workout. He noted that he welcomed enthusiasm but that some players were a bit overzealous. “We got some work ahead of us to make sure that we do things the right way,” said Pough. “We have a process that we believe works and we want to ensure that we follow that process. I like to see enthusiasm, but at times, we appear to have too much energy and we go overboard, risking injuries. “I want us to be a cohesive team, always in control. I know most of our players are trying to do things the right way and I welcome this. We want to make sure that this team is well-prepared, full of positive energy and successful” SC State returns to the practice field Tuesday at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday‘s workout will also be in shorts, shoulder pads and helmets.
