Blowfish One Win Away From Championship Series

COLUMBIA, S.C. (blowfishbaseball.com) — The Columbia Blowfish topped the Edenton Steamers 8-4 Wednesday night at Historic Capital City Stadium. The win gives the Blowfish a 1-0 series lead in round two of the Petitt Cup Playoffs. With a win tomorrow or Friday the Blowfish will advance to the Championship series for the first time in team history. The Blowfish got things started in the first getting a run to take a 1-0 lead. Zach Smith singled to left center with two outs to score Graham Saiko against Steamers starter Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy went five innings giving up six runs on ten hits while striking out three. McCarthy took the loss for the Steamers. The Steamers answered in the second with three runs off of Blowfish starter Stuart Pound. Pound went four innings giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out three. Pound did not factor in the final decision. The Steamers added another run in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. The Blowfish tied the game in the fourth with three runs of their own. Smith led the inning of with a double then Tre-Von Johnson singled to give the Blowfish runners on first and third. Danieal Torres then hit his first of three doubles on the night to score Smith and Johnson. Torres then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. The Blowfish then took the lead in the fifth. Saiko doubled to left and then scored on a Joshua Miller double to left to give the Blowfish a 5-4 lead. Joel Seddon took the game over on the mound retiring all nine batters that he faced. Seddon went three innings striking out four to get the win. The Blowfish added two more runs in the sixth. Torres doubled to center to lead off the inning. Jarrod Reed then reached on an error to score Torres. Later in the inning Michael Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Reed and give the Blowfish a 7-4 lead. Jeff Kinley came on to pitch the eighth for the Blowfish allowing one hit. The Blowfish then scored another run in the bottom of the eighth. Wilson scored when Miller reached on an error. Adam Albers then came on to pitch the ninth and faced just four batters, allowing one hit while striking out two. The Blowfish now travel to Edenton, North Carolina for game two tomorrow night and if necessary game three Friday night. With a win on either night the Blowfish will advance to the Petitt Cup Playoffs championship round and will be back at Capital City Stadium on Sunday, August 12.
