SCSU’s Pough Excited About Young Players

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (SCSU SID) — Following two consecutive practices in shells, SC State worked out in full pads for approximately two hours Tuesday morning. The 9 a.m. session was conducted in weather a little warmer than the usual early morning drills that began at 6:50 and the 7:30 evening practices. “The weather was not too much of a hindrance but it was a good bit warmer than during our previous practices,” Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough said. “But, we needed it. “We got to get used to these kinds of elements because we will be playing in hot weather. A few guys needed a little extra blow but for the most part we got through it.” During Tuesday‘s workout, the Bulldogs concentrated on special teams, some situational drills and tweaked the offense and defense that the staff recently completed installing. “I thought we had a good effort from the players,” said Pough. I‘m excited about the play of some of our young, upfront guys, especially on defense. We have some very young guys showing that they might be able to help us this fall. “As usual, I think the defense is ahead of the offense at this stage but some of our new players on offense have demonstrated that they will be able to contribute also. How quickly our young personnel develops will be key to us being a better all-round team.” SC State will return to the practice field Wednesday with two workouts – an early morning session at 6:50 and an evening practice at 7:30. MEET THE PLAYERS DAY SC State will hold its annual “Meet the Players Day” Saturday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium, following a 10 a.m. scrimmage. The annual event, sponsored by The STATE Club – the Bulldog boosters – will give fans an opportunity to meet the Bulldog players, take pictures, get autographs and have lunch with the players. Most of the activities are free, however, the cost of lunch with the players is $10 for adults and $5 for persons 17-years old and under.
