SC State Works On Special Schemes Friday

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (SCSU SID) — South Carolina State conducted its second preseason workout of the day, Friday evening at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. The Bulldogs completed its last of two-a-day workout sessions of the week for about one hour and thirty minutes in helmets and shorts. “We had a pre-practice for our scrimmage tomorrow to make sure we go out and focus on the little things,” Pough said.” It’s getting close to our first game and how we execute during the scrimmage will give us a measuring tool of where we are as a team. So that’s why we worked on special schemes today to make sure everything was in place.” The Bulldogs will conduct its second full preseason scrimmage Saturday at 10 a.m. at Dawson Stadium, followed by their annual “Meet Players Day” following the scrimmage. Pough noted that this week’s practice was more of a focus on group and game style preparations for his team. He said that the Bulldogs second scrimmage will give the coaches of an idea who is ready to play and what they can do to help the team. “You want to make sure that everyone is the right place and the entire group is on the same page,” stated Pough. For the most part we have a few guys with injuries, just trying to make sure we get them back healthy and ready to go.” Among the Bulldogs still nursing injuries are placekicker and punter Nick Belcher, running back Asheton Jordan and defensive back Darius Drummond.
