Leesville, S.C. (WOLO) — One year away from coaching was enough for Jerry Brown. The legendary coach with four state titles, 237 career wins is the new head coach at Batesburg-Leesville after spending 2011 as Fairfield Central’s athletic director. “I really missed it,” Brown said. “I really missed the relationships with players.” Brown said he earned instant respect with his new Batesburg-Leesville players because he coached USC wide receiver Bruce Ellington and Clemson running back Andre Ellington at Berkeley High School. “It lets them know that I know what a good athlete is and a good football player is.” Batesburg-Leesville has a proud football tradition but won just one game last season. Brown hopes to return the Panthers to the pinnacle of AA football in South Carolina. “I’ve coached great teams before, and they want to be a great team here now.”
