Amir Jennings Update: Startling Testimony
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO/AP) — Wednesday, potentially damaging testimony came out in the Zinah Jennings trial. Jennings is charged with Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child in connection with the disapearance of her now 2 year old son, Amir Jennings. A childhood friend of Zinah Jennings testified that Jennings once told her she thought about throwing Amir out of a car window and continue to drive down the highway. The witness also stated that Jennings once told her she considered giving Amir away or selling him. Also on Wednesday Amir’s father, Roderick Mitchell, testified. Mitchell stated that he wanted to play more of a role in his son’s life but the boy’s mother wouldn’t let him. Roderick Mitchell testified Wednesday that Zinah Jennings moved out of their apartment after the boy was born in June 2010 and wouldn’t let him spend much time with Amir. Mitchell said he was surprised when Zinah Jennings let him spend a day with their son last November. Days later, Mitchell tried to see his son again on November 29th, however when Zinah did not immediately say it was okay, Mitchell says he gave his son a hug and a kiss and left. That same day, Zinah Jennings visited the South Carolina Federal Credit Union on Forest Drive in Columbia. Wednesday the prosecution showed surveillance video of Zinah and Amir at the bank. However, this is the last time to date that anyone has seen Amir Jennings, who was 18 months old at the time. Jennings is now pregnant with her second child and due to give birth within several weeks. The prosecution is expected to have another day of testimony in the trial, tomorrow. If she’s convicted, Jennings faces up to 10 years in prison.
