Gamecock Game Day Is Here

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — No matter who it is under center Saturday for the Gamecocks, one thing is for certain: USC cannot get complacent as they face East Carolina in their season opener. “They really come to play,” said head coach Steve Spurrier. “It’s a huge victory for them if they’re able to beat a big college team. It’s not that big a deal for the big college school, so you get a lot of tight games.” The Gamecocks trailed 17-0 in the first half of their game against ECU last year at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. They would come back to win it 56-37. East Carolina head coach Ruffin McNeill said the Pirates are preparing for whoever it is that will be USC’s quarterback Saturday. “All three quarterbacks are dual-threats,’ said McNeill. “They run and have designed quarterback run plays, and also still throw the football very well. The game plan is the game plan. They do a great job with all three of those guys [Shaw, Thompson and Strickland] and getting them ready to play.” Kick off at Williams-Brice Stadium is set for 12:21pm. The game will air on ABC Columbia with coverage beginning at noon.
