Newberry officer shot, in stable condition

NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) — A Newberry police officer is in stable condition in a hospital after being shot while responding to a call.

Officials say two officers were responding to a domestic violence call in the city late Wednesday. As they approached the door, a shot was fired through the door and one officer was hit in the arm.

Police say about 3 a.m. Thursday a robot entered the residence and found a man dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Neither the name of the officer nor the dead man was immediately released.
