Shaw Still USC’s Starting QB

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Still no word on whether or not starting quarterback Connor Shaw will play in USC’s game against UAB this Saturday. If he still cannot throw the football without any pain, expect backup QB Dylan Thompson to start in his place. Shaw is still letting that deep bone bruise in his right (throwing) shoulder heal – an injury he got during the Gamecocks win at Vanderbilt almost two weeks ago. “We’ll get Dylan ready, and if Connor’s 100% at practice Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Connor will be the starter,” said head coach Steve Spurrier. “But, now I think we got confidence that we got a couple quarterbacks who can play around here.” Thompson needed that game experience to build his confidence as one of the Gamecocks signal callers. In last Saturday’s 48-10 win over East Carolina, Thompson threw for 330 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Gamecocks host UAB Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kick off is set for 7:00pm.
