Spurrier: UAB Coaches Know How To Beat Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The #8 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks take on the UAB Blazers this Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be played at Williams-Brice Stadium, the second of three straight home games. What can we expect to see? First, the biggest question going into the weekend is who will be behind center? If Connor Shaw is good to go then we can expect to see #14, as head coach Steve Spurrier said after the ECU game, that if Shaw is healthy then he is the team’s starting quarterback. If Shaw gets the nod, we can expect to see the team back to its run heavy style with Marcus Lattimore getting many carries. If Shaw is still out for this game then Dylan Thompson will get his second career start. If Thompson starts then the team will probably look a little more balanced offensively if not more pass heavy, especially against a team like UAB who won’t have a defensive line like teams in the SEC. If the team takes a run heavy approach expect Lattimore to have some big numbers. In the first week of the season UAB gave up career numbers to Troy’s Shawn Southward. Southward scored four touchdowns in all of 2011 and scored three the first week of this season to UAB.
