Haley orders flags lowered to half-staff for 9/11

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley ordered the flags above the Statehouse to be flown at half-staff to remember those who died in the Sept. 11, 2011, terrorist attacks.

Haley said in a statement Tuesday that she and her husband Michael join Americans in marking the 11th anniversary by remembering those who died, their families’ strength, and the courage of responding emergency workers, as well as the sacrifice of military service members.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington and a field in Shanksville, Pa. It was the worst terror attack in U.S. history.

The Haleys are in Tokyo this week, leading South Carolina’s economic development delegation at the 35th annual meeting of the Japan-U.S. Southeast Association.
