COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) –“This was the result of people who had an intent of committing harm or committing crime, this is not the traditional of our Columbia community,” says Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott. Saturday night around 9:00 p.m., the McDonald’s at the intersection of Two Notch Road and Beltline Boulevard turned into a murder scene. “It was the result of a verbal altercation that immediately became physical,” says Chief Scott. Chief Scott says two groups were arguing outside the restaurant when shots were fired, hitting three people. One person, 20 year old Steven McCoy of Elgin, was shot in the head and later died from his injuries, officials say. Police say it is unclear what the groups were arguing about, but his surveillance video could offer a clue. The two men seen in surveillance video, one in a white polo shirt and another in a black t-shirt with a white writing, also wearing a baseball hat are, according to police, persons of interest in the case. So far no arrests have been made, but Chief Scott says arrests are coming “These individuals had no regard, quite honestly for the regular patrons and regular citizens in the area so they will be brought to justice for it,” says Chief Scott. Scott says the time of the shooting was a busy one, for a restaurant he calls a place for families. “This is a McDonald’s, this is a family environment. This is a place I go and frequent and enjoy with my family and my children,” says Chief Scott. If you have any information about the shooting, you are asked to call CRIMESTOPPERS AT 1-888-CRIME SC.
