Man charged in Kershaw County church burglaries
CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) — A 45-year-old man has been arrested and charged with a series of church burglaries in Kershaw County.
Sheriff Jim Matthews said Tuesday that Royce Thomas Sutton was arrested last week and charged with seven counts of burglary and three counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.
Lancaster County deputies picked up Sutton during a traffic stop, after being alerted by Kershaw County authorities.
Matthews says Sutton is from Montana and was on his way to Florida. Deputies have accused Sutton of burglarizing Dekalb Baptist Church twice, Buffalo Baptist Church, Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and two businesses in Kershaw County. Deputies say he took electronics and other items.
It was unclear if Sutton has a lawyer.
