SC community hosts military appreciation picnic

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) — The community near Shaw Air Force is hosting its fourth annual military appreciation day picnic.
Air Force spokeswoman 1st Lt. Ann Blodzinski says Friday’s event is expected to draw more than 1,500 of the air base’s uniformed men and women. It is being held at a hangar on the base from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The free picnic is sponsored by the SAFE Federal Credit Union and the military affairs committee of the Sumter Chamber of Commerce.
The music, hamburgers, hot dogs, side dishes and beverages are all being donated. Military officials from the base and community leaders are serving the food.
