Expert on Debate: ‘Both candidates are prepared’

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — A lot is riding on this debate for the estimated five to six percent of undecided voters, including folks in the Midlands. As we found out from a local political expert, it’s not what the candidates say right that could win over voters, but what they say wrong. Political Science professor with the University of South Carolina, Dr. Bob Oldendick, says the first presidential debate will be the mostly watched, as both candidates have not been on stage at the same time until now. However, if the audience expects a rhetorical brawl, they could be disappointed. That’s because Oldendick says both candidates are pretty well prepared and will stick to talking points on stage. However, he says, what they say wrong could sway voters, compared to what they say right. Voters told ABC Columbia they will be watching and listening closely.
