BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man appears to have been electrocuted while working on a generator at Marlboro County High School. Investigators said the body of 44-year-old Jeffrey Cheek from Rock Hill was found this morning. He had been working in the school’s electrical room.
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Murder charges have been filed in the deaths of two people who were shot outside a car in Hardeeville five months ago. The State Law Enforcement Division said 19-year-old Bernard Jenkins was arrested today. SLED says Jenkins was with the victims shortly before they were found dead May 11.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Gov. Nikki Haley is telling education leaders, businesses and lawmakers that South Carolina’s colleges and universities ought to earn the money they are given. Haley brought the officials together today for a conference in Columbia. Haley says she’s still working out details of a new funding system.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Even though South Carolina’s voter identification law has been upheld, a panel of three federal judges in Washington says the state cannot put it in practice until 2013. The judges say in their unanimous ruling that time is too short to put the law in effect ahead of the Nov. 6 elections.
