COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — For the fourth time since taking over at South Carolina, Steve Spurrier is getting ready to return to his alma mater where he won the Heisman Trophy as a player and led Florida to six SEC titles and a national championship as a coach. He has a statue outside the stadium he helped nickname The Swamp. Spurrier acknowledges he is not the typical head coach on the visiting sideline in Gainesville. “Florida’s always going to be my school,” Spurrier said at his weekly press conference Tuesday. “I love Florida, and my wife and my daughters, even Steve Jr. got a graduate degree from there.” “We’re Gators, but we’re Gamecocks now. When my coaching days are over I’ll be more of a Gator then, but I’m a Gamecock now.”
