GameDay: Spurrier Needs Shaw To Shine

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — At his weekly press conference Tuesday, Steve Spurrier admitted he briefly considered replacing quarterback Connor Shaw with back-up Dylan Thompson in last Saturday’s 23-21 loss to LSU. “I think I mentioned it once to (USC quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus),” Spurrier said. “I thought Connor might’ve got hit in the head…but he said he was okay. He’s our quarterback. We’re giving him every opportunity to stay in there, but the other night it was obvious to everyone I think that he was going to take off running too much. He ran too much the other night. He knows it, and hopefully we can correct that.” Shaw was 19-34 passing against LSU for 177 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The junior was credited for 12 rushes for -1 yard.
