Girlfriend arrested after man dies in stabbing

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Prosecutors are reviewing whether to upgrade a criminal domestic violence charge against a woman after her boyfriend died.

Greenville County deputies say 51-year-old Tammy Simpson was arrested Thursday after telling officers she stabbed her boyfriend in the stomach with a steak knife during a fight. She has been charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Authorities say 47-year-old Daniel Lee died a short time later at the hospital. Prosecutors will decide later whether to file more serious charges against Simpson.

A police report noted Simpson also was injured in the fight and she has a bruise around her eye on her mug shot.

It wasn’t clear if Simpson had an attorney.
