SCHP Investigating 2 Morning School Bus Accidents

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating two accidents involving school buses Monday morning. The first happened around 8am on Interstate 20 near Alpine Road. Troopers say the driver ran a stop sign on the entrance ramp and hit the side of that bus. Six students were on board at the time of the accident. None of them were injured. The driver was cited with failure to stop for a traffic light. Meanwhile, the Columbia Police Department says a chain reaction led to the second accident on Farrow Road near Bethune Court just after 8am. A spokesperson says the school bus had stopped in the northbound lane with its stop bar out. Two cars came to rest behind it, but a third did not. Children were riding that bus at the time of the crash. The exact number of students is not known. No one was seriously hurt. The driver of that accident was cited with driving too fast for conditions.
