COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – A much anticipated healthy addition is days away from opening its doors. Whole Foods Market is bringing more than organic food. It’s bringing jobs to the Midlands. Whole Foods Market will officially open its doors this Thursday, October 25th, in the Cross Hill Market Shopping Center off Devine Street near Fort Jackson. The 3,700 square foot store will feature lots of local produce, in-house smoked meats, all natural items and a cafe. Also huge, officials say, will be the financial impact locally. The store will feature more than 100 South Carolina products on a rotating basis, giving equal exposure to local business owners. In addition to showcasing local products, hundreds of South Carolinians are also enjoying employment. From contractors, to administrative workers to cashiers, the new grocer is adding to employment numbers. “It’s clear Columbia is passionate about local sustainable items,” said store manager, Jeff Campbell. “We wanted to reflect that. We tailor our stores to the communities around us.” Dozens of folks from the community got a sneak peek Monday afternoon. Shelves should be completely stocked by Wednesday. The grand opening is scheduled for 8:30 Thursday morning. “This is phase two of good things to come.”
