Martin Unveils First Gamecock Team

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Frank Martin has officially taken the floor as the new man in charge of Carolina basketball. Martin and USC held an open workout Friday evening at the Colonial Life Arena. The team scrimmaged for about an hour in front of fans eager to get their first glimpse of Martin’s first Gamecock team. “With me as a two-sided coin, I sit there and I see the way that we’re driving the basketball, and that makes me proud. It makes me happy. Something that my team last year couldn’t do,” said Martin. “But, then that also makes me go home and watch film and say, ‘Well, the guy guarding the basketball isn’t doing a very good job.’ Because that’s what good teams do, they’re going to bring it at you. But, that’s a big part of what we preach.” The Gamecocks will play an exhibition game Tuesday night at Colonial Life Arena against Kentucky Wesleyan. “Just an opportunity for our guys to play against another team, play in front of fans, so when they really count, we’ve kind of been through that a little bit,” said Martin. TIp off Tuesday is set for 7:00PM.
