SC man serving life for 2 deaths wants new trial

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ A man serving life in prison for the murders of a South Carolina couple is asking for a new trial. Attorneys for Richard Gagnon say they’ll argue in Conway on Monday that new evidence means their client should get a new trial. Gagnon was convicted in 2008 in the deaths of Diane and Charles Parker, Sr. Prosecutors said Gagnon was dating the couple’s daughter and shot them because he wanted their money. Another man, Bruce Hill, was also convicted of the murders several years later. The state Court of Appeals agreed to let a trial court consider Gagnon’s new trial request based on blood evidence linked to Hill. Hill says in court documents he doesn’t know Gagnon and had never heard of him until 2011.
